FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The University of Southern Maine men's golf team competed for the first time this spring today in the first round of the Farmingdale State College Spring Invitational at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Huskies finished the first round in 15th place with a team score of 308 (+28). The University of Rochester sits in first place with a score 282 (+2).
Freshman
Jaden Poirier (White River Junction, Vt./Hartford) is tied for 44th after shooting a 75 (+5). Poirier had three birdies on the day. Freshman
Owen Moore (Pittsfield, Maine/Maine Central Institute) is tied for 51st with a score of six-over-par (76) and had a birdie on the 10th hole. Freshman
Taylor Farr (Gorham, Maine) ended round one tied for 60th (77, +7) and had two birdies in the front nine.
Alex Grant (St. Albans, Maine/Nokomis Regional) and
Alex Fournier (Augusta, Maine/Cony) rounded out the all-freshman lineup, the same group that won the Little East Conference title this past fall. Grant sits tied for 77th with an 80 (+10) while Fournier shot an 83 (+13) and is tied for 84th.
The Huskies will be looking to climb up the leaderboard tomorrow in the second round of the event. The first group of the day tees off at 9:00 am.
