GORHAM, Maine – University of Southern Maine Huskies' freshman guard
Lucy Wiles (Glenburn, Maine/Hampden Academy) has earned yet another Rookie of the Year award after an outstanding 2024-2025 season for the Huskies' women's basketball program, earning D3hoop.com Region 2 Rookie of the Year honors.
Already named the Little East Conference (LEC) and New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWABA) Rookie of the Year, Wiles become the third Southern Maine women's basketball player to earn D3hoops.com Rookie of the Year honors, joining Kristen Curley (2017-2018) and Curran Leighton (2009-2010).
Making an immediate impact for the Huskies as the starting point guard, Wiles helped Southern Maine reach the conference finals of the Little East Conference Championship for the first time since the 2014 season.
"Lucy is a competitor," noted second year head coach
David Chadbourne. "She's wants to win, and she grew into her role throughout the season, playing some of her best during our conference schedule. She plays hard and with determination on both sides of the ball, and I am excited to see the rest of her career develop at Southern Maine. I'm excited for her to receive this recognition."
In her first season in Gorham, Wiles averaged a team-leading 13.0 points per game while adding 2.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. Named the LEC's Rookie of the Week twice, and the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) Rookie of the Week three times, Wiles scored in double-figures in 19 of her 28 games played, scoring a career-high 29 points in the Huskies' 71-57 win over Rhode Island College in the semifinals of the conference championship tournament. Wiles' 29 points against the Anchormen went along with seven rebounds and five assists helped unseat the four-time defending LEC Champions. In her first post-season games, Wiles averaged 19.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 3.7 steals per game while shooting 42.6 percent from the field.
Southern Maine finished the 2024-25 season with an 18-10 overall record and a 12-4 mark in Little East Conference action. Claiming the third seed for the 2025 LEC women's basketball championship tournament, the Huskies advanced to the championship game of the tournament for the first time since the 2014 season, making their conference-record 27
th appearance all-time.
