Bufagna Places Sixth at 285 as Huskies Compete at 2025 NEWA Futures Tournament


SPRINGFIELD, Mass.     –  Senior Owen Bufagna (Newton, NH/Central Catholic) rallied from an opening round loss to win five consecutive matches in the wrestle-back to claim a sixth place finish at 285 lbs at the 2025 New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Futures Tournament hosted by Western New England Unviersity.
 
The Huskies' 16 wrestlers distributed among six weight classes competing in the Futures Tournament combined for 31 points to place 14th out of 16 competing teams.

On the Mat:
  • After dropping his opening match by a narrow 5-2 decision, Bufagna won five straight including two wins by fall and one win by technical fall. Bufagna had a 1:32 pin over Colton Wells of Western New England and then a 12-3 major decision win over Johnson & Wales Justin Smoot to secure a guaranteed podium spot.
  • Wrestling at 157, junior Colin Sevigney (Wells, Maine) also had an impressive run posting a record of 3-2 with two wins by fall and a technical fall victory. Opening with a 2:57 win by fall over WPI's John McKenzie, Sevigney also had a 3:21 win by fall against Roger Williams' Michael Malftiano.  Sevigney was dominant in his 17-1 win by technical fall over Alexander Rivard of Wesleyan to finish just outside of the podium.

Up Next:
Southern Maine will compete at the 2025 NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championship hosted by Wesleyan University beginning March 1.  Nearly 200 wrestlers from 19 NCAA Division III wrestling programs will compete for the NCAA Regional Championship and berths into the 2025 NCAA Division III National Championship.  Individually, the top three finishers in each of the 10 weight classes will earn a spot in the National Championship which will be held March 14-15 at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, Rhode Island.
