Colby Frost (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and
Anthony Mears (Lawrence, Mass./Central Catholic), junior
Jake Craig (Norridgewock, Maine/Skowhegan), and sophomores
Kyle Moore (Kennebunk, Maine/Division Avenue (NY)) and
Derek Cote (Lebanon, Maine/Noble) each had wins to highlight the University of Southern Maine Huskies 29-23 loss to the Norwich University Cadets in the final dual meet of the season.
The Huskies are now 8-12 on the season in dual meet action. Norwich is 6-9, earning its fourth consecutive dual meet victory.
On the Mat:
- Back-to-back wins at 133 and 141 from Craig and Moore put the Huskies ahead 10-5 early in a see-saw battle with Norwich. Craig earned a 14-2 major decision victory over Norwich's Carver Moyer to put USM on the board, and Moore followed with a 4:04 win by fall against Billy Burke.
- Norwich's Gannon White earned a win by fall at 149 lbs to put the Cadets ahead again 11-10, but Frost, wrestling up a weight class, grinded his way to a 5-4 decision against Norwich's Tyler Russ for a 13-11 USM advantage.
- Cote followed with his second consecutive win by fall pinning Jonathan Neypes to the mat in 2:19 in the 165 lb bout, extending the Husky lead to 19-11. However, Norwich added 12 team points to hits total with wins by fall at 174 and 184 bouts to lead 23-19.
- At 197 lbs, Mears pulled the Huskies even with a 17-5 major decision victory against Norwich's Ty Saeturn, but the Cadets earned a win by fall at 285 to secure the victory 29-23. Ranked fifth in the region, Norwich's Mason Sprinkel defeated Husky rookie Jason Canavan-Dwyer with a pin in 4:54.

The Huskies will send a contingent to the NEWA Futures Tournament on Sunday, February 23. The 2025 NCAA Northeast Regional Championship begins on Saturday, March 1 and will be hosted by Wesleyan University.
