Frost, Mears, Craig, Moore and Cote with Wins for Southern Maine

NORWICH, Vermont    –  Seniors Colby Frost (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and Anthony Mears (Lawrence, Mass./Central Catholic), junior Jake Craig (Norridgewock, Maine/Skowhegan), and sophomores Kyle Moore (Kennebunk, Maine/Division Avenue (NY)) and Derek Cote (Lebanon, Maine/Noble) each had wins to highlight the University of Southern Maine Huskies 29-23 loss to the Norwich University Cadets in the final dual meet of the season.

The Huskies are now 8-12 on the season in dual meet action.  Norwich is 6-9, earning its fourth consecutive dual meet victory.

On the Mat:
  • Back-to-back wins at 133 and 141 from Craig and Moore put the Huskies ahead 10-5 early in a see-saw battle with Norwich.  Craig earned a 14-2 major decision victory over Norwich's Carver Moyer to put USM on the board, and Moore followed with a 4:04 win by fall against Billy Burke.
  • Norwich's Gannon White earned a win by fall at 149 lbs to put the Cadets ahead again 11-10, but Frost, wrestling up a weight class, grinded his way to a 5-4 decision against Norwich's Tyler Russ for a 13-11 USM advantage.
  • Cote followed with his second consecutive win by fall pinning Jonathan Neypes to the mat in 2:19 in the 165 lb bout, extending the Husky lead to 19-11. However, Norwich added 12 team points to hits total with wins by fall at 174 and 184 bouts to lead 23-19.
  • At 197 lbs, Mears pulled the Huskies even with a 17-5 major decision victory against Norwich's Ty Saeturn, but the Cadets earned a win by fall at 285 to secure the victory 29-23.  Ranked fifth in the region, Norwich's Mason Sprinkel defeated Husky rookie Jason Canavan-Dwyer with a pin in 4:54.
