WORCESTER, Mass. – WPI won the final four bouts with bonus point victories to rally for a 30-24 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) dual meet Saturday afternoon at WPI's Sports & Recreation Center. WPI is now 11-8 in dual meet contests, while the Huskies fall to 5-10.
Senior
Colby Frost (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle) continued his unbeaten streak improving to 27-0 on the season.
On the Mat:
- WPI took an early 5-0 lead as 14th ranked Tanner Thatcher earned a technical fall win at 125 lbs over Husky freshman Bruce Rasmusson (Hamlin, NY/Kendall). The Huskies bounced back winning the next three matches to lead 18-5.
- Junior Jake Craig (Norridgewock, Maine/Skowhegan) earned the first of three consecutive wins by fall for the Huskies putting WPI's Charlie Pavis to the mat in 1:56 at 133 lbs. Sophomore Kyle Moore (Kennebunk, Maine/Division Avenue (NY)) made it a 12-5 Southern Maine lead with a 30-second pin at 141 pounds over Mason Medina. Frost made it 18-5 with a win by fall in 4:22 over WPI's Mason Basara.
- After a WPI win by fall at 157 lbs, Husky sophomore Derek Cote (Lebanon, Maine/Noble) put his team ahead 24-11 with a 2:28 win at 165 lbs over WPI's Ryan Hsu.
- Facing a double-digit deficit, WPI earned three consecutive pins to take the lead at 174, 184 and 197 lbs. Nicolas Lesieurs' 6:25 pin at 197 lbs gave the Engineers the lead, 26-24, and then Joe Bernard's 285 lbs win by major decision sealed the 30-24 win.

Southern Maine travels to Western New England on Saturday, February 8 (12:00 pm) for a quad meet with WNEU, Trinity (Conn.) and Plymouth State. The Huskies return home for senior night on Friday, February 14 (6:00 pm) against New England College.
