GORHAM, Maine – Sophomore
Lucy Wiles (Glenburn, Maine/Hampden Academy) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's basketball team has been named the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches' Association (MWBCA) Player of the Week for the period ending December 14.
The Huskies' guard averaged 17.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game leading Southern Maine to a pair of wins with timely scoring. In a 73-42 win over UMaine Farmington to start the week, Wiles scored 10 of her 16 points in the first quarter helping the Huskies race out to a 21-8 first-quarter lead. She was 4-for-5 from the field in the quarter, including 2-for-2 from three. She finished the game 6-for-10 from the field, and 3-for-4 from three. On the road at Albertus Magnus, Wiles led all scorers with 18 points, scoring seven of her 18 points in a key 15-4 second-quarter run to push Southern Maine ahead of the Falcons 37-27 at the half. The Huskies had trailed the Falcons 23-22 before Wiles started the run with the first of her two three-pointers in the quarter.
Through nine games this season, Wiles is averaging 15.4 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 0.8 steals per game while shooting 46.4 percent from the field, and 50.0 percent from three-point range. In 37 career games, Wiles has 504 points, 98 rebounds, 110 assists, 50 steals and is averaging 13.6 points per game.
Southern Maine (8-1, 2-0 Little East) closes out 2025 on the road at Maine Maritime Academy on Tuesday, December 30 (4:00 pm). The Huskies return to Little East action on Saturday, January 3 (1:00 pm) at Keene State College.
