Jaycie Christopher Named USBWA Division III National Player of the Week

Christopher Averaged 25.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists per game and shot over 70 percent

GORHAM, Maine  -  Rounding out a day of awards, senior Jaycie Christopher (Skowhegan, Maine) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's basketball team was took home a top national honor earning United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Division III National Player of the Week. 
 
Recently named the Little East Conference, Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) and New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Player of the Week, and to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week, Christopher strung together a strong two games helping lift Southern Maine to a pair of Little East Conference wins.
 
Averaging 25.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game, Christopher used deadeye shooting to help lead Southern Maine (receiving votes, D3hoops.com/WBCA) to the pair of victories. Against UMass Boston on Wednesday, she scored a then-career-high 21 points (8-of-12 FG, 5-of-8 3FG) while adding eight rebounds and two assists in the Huskies' 64-47 win. Christopher then upped her career best by scoring 30 points (10-of-13 FG, 5-of-6 FT, 5-of-5 3FG) in a 79-55 win vs. Western Connecticut State on Saturday. She completed the double-double with 10 rebounds, while also securing five assists and two steals. For the week, Christopher ended the week shooting 72.0 percent (18-of-25) from the field, 83.3 percent (5-of-6) from the foul line and 76.9 percent (10-of-13) from behind the arc.
 
Through seven games, Christopher leads the Huskies in scoring averaging 18.3 points per game, and is shooting 53.9 percent (41-for-76) overall and 48.6 percent (18-for-37) from three.  She is adding 7.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.9 steals per game.
 
The Huskies are 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the Little East Conference, averaging 75.6 points per game and shooting 44.4 percent as a team.  Including Christopher, three players are averaging double-figures: sophomores Lucy Wiles (Glenburn, Maine/Hampden Academy) 15.0 ppg and Dakota Shipley (Bath, Maine/Brunswick) 12.9 ppg.
 
Southern Maine is back in action in its final home contest of 2025, hosting UMaine Farmington on Wednesday, December 10 (5:30 pm).  The Huskies close out 2025 with two road games at Albertus Magnus on Saturday, December 13 (2:00 pm) and at Maine Maritime Academy on Tuesday, December 30 (4:00 pm)
