NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore
Lucy Wiles (Glenburn, Maine/Hampden Academy scored a game-high 18 points to lead three players in double-figures as the University of Southern Maine Huskies used a strong second half to put away the Albertus Magnus College Falcons 71-44 in a non-conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center. The win is the fifth consecutive for the Huskies who are now 4-1 on the road, and 8-1 overall.
Wiles finished the game 3-for-5 from three, and scored seven of her 18 points in the closing minutes of the second half as USM pulled away from the Falcons. Senior
Jaycie Christopher (Skowhegan, Maine) recorded her third consecutive double-double with 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while senior
Avah Ingalls (Hampstead, NH/Pinkerton Academy) had 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Dejahlee Dogans led the Falcons with 15 points and eight rebounds. Adriana DeBernardo, Keira Reynolds and Isabella Fiorillo each had nine points. Fiorillo added four assists, while Reynolds had six boards and three assists.

Today's game marked the first meeting between the Albertus Magnus College Falcons and the University of Southern Maine Huskies.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- With both teams scoring on their first possession, Southern Maine ran off an 11-0 run early in the first quarter to lead the Falcons 13-2 with 4:03 on the clock, capped by a steal from Christopher and a layup from sophomore Dakota Shipley (Bath, Maine/Brunswick). However, the Falcons bounced back with an 11-4 run to close the frame to trail by a single possession, 17-13, headed into the second. Dejahlee Dogans and Keira Reynolds hit back-to-back threes to key the run.
- Albertus Magnus continued its strong offense in the second quarter and snagged a 23-22 lead using a 10-5 run in the first four minutes. Both teams went back-and-forth over the next few possessions, and Adriana Debernardo made two of three free throws to knot the game up at 25 with 1:01 until halftime. Facing a tied score, the Huskies closed the half on a 12-2 run to lead 37-27 at the break. Christopher scored five of USM's points, while Wiles had four, and graduate student Liz Cote (Conway, NH/Kennett) hit a three to close the burst.
- The Huskies continued to grow their lead in the third quarter, and scored the first nine points of the frame on back-to-back-to-back threes with Ingalls sandwiching a pair around one from Wiles to lead by 19, 46-27, with 8:07 to go. After the flurry of threes, both teams went back-and-forth in scoring, and the Huskies led by 18, 57-39, at the end of the third on a buzzer-beating reverse layup from Ingalls.
- Southern Maine ran off 10 unanswered points to start the fourth and ballooned its lead to 67-39 with 4:06 to go in the game. Freshman Izzy Morelli (Gray, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester) scored eight of the Huskies' 10 points in the run, going 3-for-3 from the floor and finishing a pair of traditional three-point plays. From there, the Falcons were able to cut the lead to 26 twice, but never got any closer as the Huskies earned the 71-44 win.

- Southern Maine shot 41.3 percent (26-for-63) from the field. The Huskies held the Falcons to just 27.3 percent shooting (15-for-55).
- Forcing Albertus Magnus into 21 turnovers, the Huskies scored 31 of its 71 points off of Falcon miscues.
