Four Huskies Earn Podium Spots as Southern Maine Places Fifth at RWU Invitational

PROVIDENCE, RI  -  Senior Jake Craig (Norridgewock, Maine/Skowhegan). junior Kyle Moore Kennebunk, Maine/Division Avenue (NY)), sophomore Shane Moore (Kennebunk, Maine/Division Avenue (NY)) and sophomore Jason Canavan-Dwyer (Keene, NH) each earned a spot on the podium as the University of Southern Maine Huskies finished fifth at the 2025 Roger Williams Invitational.
 
Competing in their second event of the 2025-2026 season, the Huskies scored 78.5 points in the nine-team tourney. Craig and K. Moore each earned second place finishes, while K. Moore earned a third-place spot.  Canavan-Dwyer placed fifth at 285 lbs.
 
On The Mat:
  • Craig had a strong day at 133 lbs opening with a 12-0 major decision and rumbling into the title bout with a win by fall in 1:43 over Coast Guard's Nathan Sayers and an 8-4 decision against Coast Guard's Marvin Armistead. The title bout saw two nationally-ranked opponents face off. Craig, ranked fifth nationally to start the season, went against sixth-ranked Peyton Ellis from Johnson and Wales.  Craig fell 2-1 in a closely contested match.
  • Wrestling in a strong 141-lb bracket, Moore, ranked third in the region,  earned second place with a 7-2 win by decision over fourth-ranked Dom Moyer of Coast Guard, and a win by fall over Roger Williams' Tyler Lanci (5:45) and a 6-3 decision against JWU's Nicholas Torres.  In the title match, Moore fell to top-ranked Hayden Myers.
  • S. Moore went 4-1 to earn a third place spot at 149 lbs.  Ranked eight at 149 lbs, Moore bounced back to a major decision loss to third-ranked Ike Guttentag of Wesleyan to win back-to-back for his podium spot defeating Coat Guard's Mike Edwards 7-3, and then pinning Wyan Brock of Johnson & Wales in 4:09.
  • After an opening round loss, Canvan-Dwyer, ranked seventh in region, won four straight to put himself in contention for a podium finish.  He sealed the fifth place spot winning by medical forfeit over Achilles Clarke of Bridgeport.
 
 
Next Time:
Southern Maine remains on the road for its next two contest dates, and will travel to compete in the United States Merchant Marine Academy for a quad meet on Sunday, November 16 (12:00 pm) before competing at the Doug Parker Invitational at Springfield College on Saturday, November 22 (10:00 am).  The Huskies will then host its annual Ted Reese Invitational on Saturday, December 6 (10:00 am).
