Ben Aucoin Named Little East Conference Player and Rookie of the Week

GORHAM, Maine – Freshman Ben Aucoin (Moncton, New Brunswick) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's ice hockey team was chosen as the Little East Conference Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week after his historic six-goal performance on Saturday against Saint Anselm College. Aucoin has the honor of being the first-ever receipt of each award in the inaugural season of LEC ice hockey.

Aucoin scored his first career goal to put the Huskies up 2-0 in the second period of Saturday's games. Saint Anselm then cut the lead to 2-1 and Aucoin went on to score the final five goals of the contest. His hat-trick goal came in the final minute of the period.

He scored again in the first minute of the third period to tie the record of four held by Travis Bezio (vs. Stonehill on Feb. 6, 1992), Franco Narcisi (vs. Babson on Jan. 25, 2003), and Chris Sparkes (vs. Colby on Dec. 5, 2006.). Aucoin broke the record after exiting the penalty box and finding open ice. He completed the double hat trick with a blast of a shot from the blueline that found its way into the back of the net.

The Huskies will play again on Friday, November 7 when they travel to face Western Connecticut State in their first ever Little East Conference game.
