SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Senior
Jake Craig (Norridgewock, Maine/Skowhegan) continued the strong start to his 2025-26 season claiming the 133-pound title at the 2025 Doug Parker Invitational hosted by Springfield College.
Craig was one of two Huskies to earn a podium spot at the event and was joined by sophomore
Shane Moore (Kennebunk, Maine/Division Avenue (NY)). Moore placed sixth in the 149-pound division in a marathon day.
The Huskies finished 10
th out of 13 schools with 48 points. United States Coast Guard Academy won the event with 167.5 points, followed by Williams in second with 141.5.
On The Mat:
- Craig was dominant posting a 4-0 record to rumble his way to the top of the podium. Earning back-to-back wins by fall in his opening matches, Craig earned a 13-0 win by major decision against Ethan Buonanducci of Bridgewater State to advance to the championship bout. Grappling for first place, Craig cleared Springfield's Jack Callahan with a win by technical fall, 16-1 (2:13). Ranked sixth nationally, and second in the region, at 133 lbs, Craig is 11-1 this season, moving his career record to 93-21.
- Wrestling in six matches during the day, Moore battled his way to a sixth place finish at 149 lbs. Opening with back-to-back wins by fall, Moore fell to nationally-ranked Nate Fitt of Coast Guard in the semifinals. Moore bounced back however to put himself in contention for a podium spot, earning a 4-1 decision over Bridgewater State's Kamel Dib, and then a hard-won 9-7 decision against WNEU's James Linder. In the consolation semifinals, Moore lost in extra time 9-7 before finishing the day on the podium in sixth place.
Next Time:
Southern Maine will host its annual Ted Reese Invitational on Saturday, December 6 (10:00 am) in its next contest. The Huskies are then off until a head-to-head match with Williams College on the road on Saturday, January 3 (10:00)
