KINGS POINT, N.Y. - Senior
Jake Craig (Norridgewock, Maine/Skowhegan) and sophomore
Shane Moore (Kennebunkport, Maine/Division Avenue (NY)) each posted a 3-0 record to highlight the University of Southern Maine Huskies' wrestling program at the 2025 Metro Duals hosted by the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) on Sunday at Liebertz Gymnasium.
Southern Maine fell to New York University 39-6, and defeated Hunter College 47-6. The Huskies dropped a close one to USMMA 29-21, falling after leading 21-0 to start.
Freshmen
Ayden Cofone (Windham, Maine) and
James Allen-Chaplick (Sanford, Maine) both had a strong day, posting a 2-0 mark with wins in their matches against Hunter and USMMA.
On The Mat:
- Wrestling at 133, Craig, ranked fifth nationally and first in the region, was 3-0 earning a 5-1 win by decision over New York University's Jacob Venezia. Venezia is the third-ranked wrester in the National Wrestling Coaches' Association (NWCA) Region 3. Craig took a win by forfeit against Hunter College, and then rumbled to a 15-0 win by technical fall over USMMA's Charles Case. Craig was dominant in his match with Case, sealing the win in 2:10.
- Competing at 149, Moore continued the strong start to his sophomore season, opening with an 8-4 decision against NYU's John Mairano. Picking up a win by forfeit against Hunter, Moore went on to earn a 41-second win-by-fall over USMMA's Aiden Krass.
- Wrestling at 125, Cafone earned wins over Hunter's Muhamadu Konteh and USMMA's Caden Farver. Cafone pinned Konteh in 2:36, and then had another quick win-by-ball over Farver in 1:00.
- Allen-Chaplick had a win-by-fall and a major decision at 141 lbs for the Huskies. Allen-Chaplick put Hunter's Nacim Benzine to the mat in 1:20, and then earned an 18-9 major decision over USMMA's Lucas Maneckshaw

Southern Maine remains on the road for its next contest, and will travel to the Doug Parker Invitational at Springfield College on Saturday, November 22 (10:00 am). The Huskies will then host its annual Ted Reese Invitational on Saturday, December 6 (10:00 am).
