GORHAM, Maine - Wrapping up the regular season with a strong 5-1 win at home over Plymouth State University, the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's soccer team claimed the no. 3 seed and a home playoff berth in the 2025 Little East Conference women's soccer championship tournament.
The Huskies are the defending 2022, 2023 and 2024 Little East Conference tournament champions. Southern Maine (4-2-2 LEC) will host no. 6 UMass Boston (4-3-1 LEC) in the quarterfinal round of the tournament on Hannaford Field on Saturday, November 1 (6:30 pm). UMass Boston won its final three conference games of the season to lock up its spot in the tourney, including a 3-0 win over UMass Dartmouth to clinch. The Beacons have to conference titles, most recently in 2019.
Southern Maine won its final two conference game of the season outscoring 2025 Little East Conference regular season champion Eastern Connecticut 3-0 on Saturday, October 25 before picking up another three points in its 5-1 win over Plymouth State on Wednesday.
Scoring a conference-leading 47 goals this season, the Huskies are led by sophomore
Meghan Przybilla (St. Anthony, Minn.) and her 12 goals and eight assists for 32 points. Senior
Riley Reitchel (Palermo, Maine/Erskine Academy) has eight goals and six assists for 22 points, while sophomore
Makyla Magid (Golden, Colo./Lakewood) and freshman
Lexi Morin (Brunswick, Maine) each have four goals. Magid has six assists for 14 points, while Morin has five assists for 13 points.
Defensively, the Huskies are led by senior center backs
Devan Sherry (Gorham, Maine) and
Devon Gatz (Millis, Mass.) as well as senior co-captain Brit Hill (Pembroke, NH). The Huskies have platooned a trio of underclass goalkeepers in 2025. Freshman
Madi Cook (Essex, Mass.) has played outstandingly in her last two starts earning a 3-0 shutout win over Eastern Connecticut and a 5-1 win over Plymouth State. She has a 1.01 GAA.
UMass Boston is led by Sofia Schallmo, the 2024 LEC Rookie and Offensive Player of the Year. Schallmo has scored 12 of the Beacons' 25 goals this season, and has seven assists for 31 points. Sofia Roberts has four goals for eight points, while Andrea Rivera has two goals and a pair of assists for six points. Janiya Matier has led the Beacons' goalkeeping group. She is 7-5-2 with five shutouts and a 1.15 GAA, making 75 saves this season.
