FARMINGTON, Maine –Sophomore
Lexi Morin (Brunswick, Maine) recorded her first career hat trick to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 4-0 win over the UMaine Farmington Beavers in a non-conference women's soccer game Tuesday afternoon at Leib Field.
The Huskies dominated play outshooting the Beavers 34-7 (23-2 on goal) to start its 2026 season with a shutout victory.

Today's game marks the 37
th meeting between UMaine Farmington and the University of Southern Maine. The Huskies lead the overall series 28-5-4, and have won the last seven games consecutively, including a 5-0 result in 2025.
How It Happened:
- Morin opened her 2026 scoring account in the 10th minute. Junior Taryn Curry (Raymond, Maine/Freeport) won a 50/50 ball on the right side and send a forward ball to junior Kadin Davoren (Yarmouth, Maine) on the same side. After a few touches, Davoren sent in a well-placed cross onto the head of Morin for a 1-0 lead.
- Morin scored again in the 38th minute, knocking in a loose ball in the box to the left side of the next. At the end of the half, the Huskies held a 20-2 edge in shots.
- Morin completed the hat trick in the 80th minute benefiting from another Davoren assist. Davoren played Morin into the box, and she finished to the right.
- Southern Maine capped its scoring moments later when sophomore Marie Benoit (Hallowell, Maine/Hall-Dale) punched in her first goal of the season. Benoit's initial attempt was turned back by UMF goalkeeper Roo Sawyer, but the Huskies' regained possession and Benoit was able to beat Sawyer for the score.

- Morin's hat trick is the first multiple goal game of the sophomore's career. Her three goals give in nine overall in her 25-game career. Her opening goal in today's game is marks the first game-winner of her career.
- Davoren's pair of assists in today's game matches her effort against the Beavers in 2025. Davoren had to helpers in USM's 5-0 win at home against UMF (October 8, 2025).
- Benoit's goal is the fifth of her career. Benoit also had a goal against UMF in 2025.
- UMF's Sawyer made 19 saves against the Huskies in a strong effort. Sawyer stopped a penalty attempt from Morin late in the second half preventing the Huskies' forward from four goals.
- Thirteen Huskies made their Southern Maine debuts in the game, and the Huskies played all 29 field players on the roster.
