GORHAM, Maine – History was made on Friday afternoon as senior
Remy Levin (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's golf team became the first medalist in Little East Conference Women's Golf Championship history as she fired an 85 (+13) on the second day of competition to edge out Keene State's Madi Mousley by a stroke for the conference title. Levin shot par on the final hole to clinch the honor and finished the event with a two-round total of 170 (+26). Her first-place finish earns her LEC Player of the Year and First Team All-LEC honors. She has now shot below a 90 or below 10 times this season.
The University of Southern Maine placed third in the team standings with a 772 (+196) at the event that was held at Valley Country Club in Warwick, R.I. Keene State won the team title with a 729 (+153) while Husson University placed second with a 734 (+158).
Junior
Belle Steeves (South Paris, Maine/Oxford Hills) also earned all-conference honors by placing 10th. Steeves fired a 96 (+24) to go her 98 (+26) from yesterday to finish with a two-round total of 194 (+50) and earn Second Team All-LEC status. This is her fifth time breaking 100 this season.
Senior
Mackenzie Kingsbury (Woodsville, N.H.) and sophomore
Ryley Meyer (North Sioux City, S.D./Dakota Valley) rounded out the lineup for the Huskies. Kingsbury placed 14th with a 202 (+58) while Meyer finished in 15th with a 206 (+62).
Today's event concludes the fall season for the Huskies. The LEC does not have an automatic bid for the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship.
