BRUNSWICK, Maine – Entering the second round of the Bowdoin Invitational in 18th place, the University of Southern Maine men's golf team tied for the ninth-best second round score to climb up two spots on the leader and finish the event in 16th place. The Huskies had a team score of 305 (+17) in the second round to finish with a total score of 632 (+56).
Freshmen
Alex Fournier (Augusta, Maine/Cony) and
Jaden Poirier (White River Junction, Vt./Hartford) each had great days and finished tied for 35th. Fournier shot an 81 (+9) on the first day of the competition but shot even-par (72) in round two to finish with a combined score of 153 (+9). Poirier also had a big improvement on his first-round score by shooting one-over par (73).
Tufts University retained the top place on the leaderboard led by medalist Nick McCabe. McCabe finished the event with a score of 141 (-3) and the Jumbos had a team score of 587 (+11).
On the Course:
- Fournier started the day with a birdie and finished the front nine one over par with a 38. He had two birdies on the back half of the course and shot one-under par on the back nine (34). His birdies came on holes 12 and 16. His score tied the fifth-best of the second round.
- Poirier matched Fournier with three birdies, one of the front-nine and two on the back nine. Poirier's birdies came on holes 7, 12 and 15.
- Freshman Taylor Farr (Gorham, Maine) shaved four strokes off his first-round score with a 79 (+7) to tie for 79th with a two-round score of 162 (+18).
- Freshman Owen Moore (Pittsfield, Maine/Maine Central Institute) placed 92nd with a total score of 164 (+20). He had an 81 (+9) in the second round and had a birdie on the last hole.
- Junior Sam Farr (Gorham, Maine) logged another 87 (+15) to finish 104th with a total score of 174 (+30).
Up Next:
The Huskies will now turn their attention toward the Little East Conference Championship. The two-round LEC Championship starts on Wednesday at 9:00 am at the Keene Country Club in Keene, N.H.
