GORHAM, Maine – Three members of the University of Southern Maine Huskies men's ice hockey team have earned 2023-2024 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors. Earning the academic distinction were sophomore
Kadin Ilott (Kenora, Ontario/Beaver Brae Secondary School) and seniors
Cole Ouellette (Lewiston, Maine) and
Jakub Suran (Liberec, Czech Republic).

To be eligible for Academic All-District recognition, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically with a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher. The student-athlete also must have competed in 90 percent or started in 66 percent of their institution's games. The 2023-24 Academic All-District At-Large Team (including the USM-sponsored sports of field hockey, ice hockey, lacrosse, golf, wrestling) is selected by College Sports Communicators, and recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in competition and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Recently named an American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) Krampade All-American Scholar, Ilott was in the Huskies' lineup for all 27 games during the 2023-24 season. The defenseman is a William B. Wise Scholar Athlete and was also named to the New England Hockey Conference All-Academic Team for the 2023-24 season. A Biology major, Ilott scored two goals and had nine assists for the Huskies last season. He has scored five goals and dished out 17 assists over 52 career games.

Now a two-time CSC Academic All-District At-Large honoree, Ouellette has been one of the Huskies' top defensemen over the past few seasons. He led all Southern Maine defensemen in assists last season with 11 and scored a goal. A staple of the Huskies' lineup, Ouellette played in 26 out of 27 games in 2023-24 and has five goals and 30 assists in 69 career games. He has recorded 10 or more points in each of the last three seasons. Ouellette, a Marketing major, earned CSC Academic All-District honors as a member of the Huskies' men's tennis team for the 2022-2023 academic year in addition to his two career Academic All-District At-Large selections. He is also a three-time NEHC All-Academic Team member and a three-time William B. Wise Scholar Athlete.

The leading scorer among Southern Maine defensemen in 2023-24 with five goals and nine assists, Suran played in all 27 games in 2023-24. The Computer Science major is a William B. Wise Scholar Athlete and was named to the NEHC All-Academic Team for the 2023-24 season. Suran has six goals and 13 assists over the course of 45 games with the Huskies.
