Huskies Fall to Pilgrims 4-2

HENNIKER, N.H. – A hat trick by Gunnar Sibley helped propel the New England College Pilgrims to a 4-2 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's ice hockey team on Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale for both teams. The Huskies had goals from sophomore Danny Caputo (Lanoka Harbor, N.J.) and sophomore Gavin Simopoulos (Cape Elizabeth, Maine).
 
Freshman Ean Badgett (Howell, Mich.) made 35 saves of the Huskies in the loss.

New England College: 9-16-0 (8-10-0 LEC)
 
Series History:
Tonight's game was the 58th meeting between the two teams. The Pilgrims led the series 43-8-7. Southern Maine won the last meeting between the two teams 4-3 on January 9 in Gorham.
 
The Goaltenders:
Southern Maine: Ean Badgett (2-3-0): 58:51, three goals allowed, 35 saves
New England College: Danny Miscavish (1-5-0), 60:00, two goals allowed, 29 saves
 
How It Happened:
  • The Pilgrims scored first with Sibley's first goal of the contest, a shorthanded goal, coming with 3:18 left in the first period. The lead only lasted for 27 seconds before junior Owen Drummey (Falmouth, Maine) set up Caputo for his first goal of the season with the Huskies on the power play. Sophomore Hunter Svicki (Toronto, Ontario) also had an assist.
  • Simopoulos scored 20 seconds in the second period to put the Huskies ahead 2-1 with juniors Kayde Kinaschuk (Calgary, Alberta) and Ethan MacDuff (Lloydminster, Alberta) assisting. Back-to-back goals by Sibley put the host team back head 3-2 with heading into the third period.
  • New England College added an empty net goal from Egor Osipik in the final minute for the 4-2 final.
 
Inside The Stats:
  • The Pilgrims led 39-31 in shots on goal, while the Huskies had a 42-35 advantage in faceoff wins.
  • Sophomore Gage LeTourneau (Presque Isle, Maine) blocked two shots for the Huskies.
 
Up Next:
The Huskies have earned the No. 4 seed in the 2026 Little East Conference Men's Ice Hockey Championship Tournament, presented by Townshend Hockey. They will host the No. 5 seed UMass Boston on Wednesday.
