GORHAM, Maine – Freshman
Ben Aucoin (Moncton, New Brunswick) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's ice hockey team has been named to the Little East Conference All-Rookie Team after a tremendous freshman season. The LEC announced its full slate of postseason awards for its inaugural season of men's ice hockey Tuesday afternoon.
Aucoin led the Huskies on both goals with 17 and points with 26. His 17 goals tied for fourth in the conference. In just his second career game, and his first on home ice, Aucoin set a program record for goals in a game with six scores in a 7-1 win against Saint Anselm on November 1. The historic performance earned him the first-ever LEC Player of the Week and LEC Rookie of the Week awards. He added a second Rookie of the Week honor in February following a five-point weekend with a goal and two assists in an 8-5 win over UMass Dartmouth and a goal and an assist in a 4-3 win over UMass Boston. Aucoin had points in 17 of 26 games on the season. His four game-winning goals tied for the most in the conference.
The Huskies finished the season with a record of 12-13-1 and a 10-7-1 mark in conference play. The team's 12 wins are their most since the 2007-08 season.
