BREWSTER, Mass. – The University of Southern Maine men's golf team shot a 302 (+20) as a team in the first round of the 89th annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship at The Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Mass. Freshmen
Jaden Poirier (White River Junction, Vt./Hartford) and
Alex Fournier (Augusta, Maine/Cony) each shot two-over par 74 and are tied for eighth.
Endicott College leads the field after shooting even-par 288 as a team led by a 68 (-4) from Brady Burke.
On the Course:
- Poirier had three birdies and shot par on 10 holes. He shot one-over par on each half of the course.
- Fournier shot one-under par with a 35 on holes 10-18. He recorded four birdies and eight pars in the round.
- Freshman Alex Grant (St. Albans, Maine/Nokomis Regional) is tied for 38th place with a score of 78 (+6) and three birdies.
- Freshman Owen Moore (Pittsfield, Maine/Maine Central Institute) fired an 82 (+10) and is tied for 64th place. He had a birdie on the 12th hole.
- Freshman Taylor Farr (Gorham, Maine) is tied 85th after shooting an 85 (+13).

The competition continues tomorrow at 8:30 am. Grant will be the first Husky to tee off at 10:00 am.
