GORHAM, Maine – The 2024 Little East Conference Men's Golf Championship starts on Wednesday, October 2 and the University of Southern Maine men's golf team is ready to make a run at the conference title. The two-day event is being hosted by Keene State College at The Keene Country Club and each round starts at 9:00 am.
Participating Programs: The University of Southern Maine, Eastern Connecticut State University, Keene State College, Rhode Island College, Vermont State University Castleton, and Western Connecticut State University
Championship History: The Huskies finished fourth last year's championship. Eastern Connecticut has won all three LEC titles since the conference first sponsored a golf championship in 2021.
Last Time Out: The Huskies placed 16th at the Bowdoin Invitational over the weekend. The team entered the second round in 18th place but had four of their five players improve on their first-round scores led by freshman
Alex Fournier who tied for the fifth-best second round score at even par.
Southern Maine Lineup:
- Alex Fournier (Augusta, Maine/Cony): Fournier is one of several Husky rookies thriving in their first season in Gorham. He was the co-medalist at the John Queenan Memorial Invitation in a performance that earned him the LEC Golfer and Rookie of the Week honors. He has an average round of 77.38.
- Jaden Poirier (White River Junction, Vt./Hartford): Poirier has been the top performer for the Huskies at several events this season and has had three top five finishes. He earned the LEC Rookie of the Week award on September 23 after tying for second at the USM Husky Classic by shooting par. His scoring average this season is 78.
- Owen Moore (Pittsfield, Maine/Maine Central Institute): Moore has competed in eight events for the Huskies this season with an average round of 77.38. He has finished in the top five in three events and was the top performer for the Huskies at the Mariners Invitational.
- Taylor Farr (Gorham, Maine): Farr placed first at the Huskies' season-opening tri-match in his first collegiate event. His performance earned him the double conference honors as the LEC Golfer of the Week and LEC Rookie of the Week. He has an average round of 80.
- Alex Grant (St. Albans, Maine/Nokomis Regional): Grant rounds out the all-rookie lineup for the Huskies and will tee off in the first group on Wednesday. Grant placed fifth in his first event and has broken 80 three times. He has an average round of 80.17 over six events.
