Aucoin and Poirier Claim First at Southern Maine Cup

Portland, Maine – Sophomore Ben Aucoin (Moncton, New Brunswick) and junior Jaden Poirier (White River Junction, Vt./Hartford) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's golf team earned first place on Saturday at the Southern Maine Cup on a two-hole tiebreaker over teammates Will Farschon (Brunswick, Maine) and Carter O'Connell (Monmouth, Maine/Monmouth Academy. The annual event involves six holes of scramble, six holes of best ball, and six holes of alternate shot with each team dividing in three scoring pairs. Each pair shot a 64 to finish eight-under-par.

Southern Maine pairings took the top five spots as the pair of freshman SJ Welch (Newport, Maine/Nokomis Regional) and sophomore Joey Samson (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) placed third with a 65 (-7). The duo of sophomore Keenan Buteau (Scarborough, Maine) and freshman Nick Harmon (Scarborough, Maine) tied for fourth with team of junior Alex Fournier (Augusta, Maine/Cony) and senior Quinn Dillon (Gorham, Maine) with each pair shooting a 66 (-6).

Junior Alex Grant (St. Albans, Maine/Nokomis Regional) tied for sixth despite playing solo with a 70 (-2).
