ROANOKE, VA. – The fifth and sixth All-Americans in University of Southern Maine Huskies' Wrestling program history, freshman Jake Craig (Skowhegan, Maine) and senior Jake Peavey (South China, Maine/Erskine Academy) finished their 2023 NCAA Division III Wrestling National Championship appearance strong.
 
In his national tournament debut, Craig, just the third USM freshman to qualify for nationals in program history, earned All-American honors on day one winning back-to-back matches, and finished fourth in the nation at 125 pounds.  Dropping his semifinal match narrowly 2-1 to Baldwin Wallace's Jacob Decatur, Craig bounced back with a 2-1 win over Millinkin's Zac Blasioli to earn a  spot in the third place match.  Craig ended his tourney trip placing following a 10-1 major decision loss to North Central College's Christian Guzman. 
 
Fighting back from an opening round loss, Peavey took sixth place at 285 lbs. Following a thrilling 9-8 win over Ferrum's Rayshawn Dixon in an elimination match, Peavey won his first match of day two also in dramatic fashion. Down 4-3 with second remaining in the third period, Peavey scored a takedown and then got the pin over University of Wisconsin – La Crosse's Michael Douglass in 6:57.  In the consolation semifinals, Augsburg's Tyler Kim won by fall over Peavey in 1:44, and then dropped a 9-2 decision in the fifth place match to place sixth nationally.
 
As the fifth and sixth All-American in USM wrestling history, Craig and Peavey join former greats Mike Morin (2009, 2010), Matt Ulrich (2010), Dan Del Gallo (2017) and Peter Del Gallo (2019).
