Huskies drop Match to Thomas 6-3

Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Thomas College men's tennis team won two doubles points and four singles points as they defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 6-3 on Thursday afternoon in Waterville.

At third doubles, Ethan Rudnicki (Levant, ME/Hermon) and Antoine Gignac (Quebec City, QC/St. Lawrence) picked up the Huskies' only doubles win, taking down Caleb Daigneault (Cornville, Maine) and Kegan Rodrigue (Auburn, Maine), 8-5. At first doubles, Jonathan Bartuccio-Pereira (St. Bruno, QC/College Antoine Girourard) and Zach Desmarais (St. Cyrille, QC/École Secondaire L'Odyssée) lost 8-1 to Jose Afonso (Tenerife, Spain) and Gabe McPhail (Windham, Maine), while at second doubles Zac Howe (Arundel, ME/Thornton Academy) and Devin Witte (Ridgeville Corners, OH/Archbold) fell 8-2 to Liam Gould (Freeport, Maine) and Rajhan Munnings (Providenciales, Turks and Caicos).

The Huskies were able to pick up two wins in singles play as Witte took down Rodrigue 6-3, 6-1 and Gignac defeated Daigneault 6-0, 6-0. Desmarais lost a tight match with Gould 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-5). Rudnicki also had a close match, falling 7-5, 7-6 (7-1) to Munnings. Bartuccio-Pereira and Howe both dropped their matches at first and third singles 6-2, 6-3 to Afonso and McPhail.

The Huskies are back in action on Saturday, April 23 as they travel to Western Connecticut State University for a match at 1pm in Danbury.
