Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team swept both the singles and doubles points as they defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 9-0 on Saturday afternoon in Bridgewater.
The team of Jeff Pavao (Somerset, Mass.) and Sean Nutter (Mattapoisett, Mass.) handled
Jonathan Bartuccio-Pereira (St. Bruno, QC/College Antoine Girourard) and
Zac Howe (Arundel, ME/Thornton Academy) 8-1 at first doubles. Paired at second doubles,
Zach Desmarais (St. Cyrille, QC/École Secondaire L'Odyssée) and
Azam Jiwa (Calgary, AB/West Island College) fell to Kendan Ziegler (Hadley, NY) and Darius Desnoes (Ithaca, NY) 8-3, while
Ethan Rudnicki (Levant, ME/Hermon) and
Antoine Gignac (Quebec City, QC/St. Lawrence) dropped their match at third doubles 8-6 to Charles Fiske (Taunton, Mass.) and Dan Salzberg (Uxbridge, Mass.).
In singles play, Gignac and Jiwa turned in the most competitive matches. Gignac dropped his match at fifth singles 6-4, 604 to Robert Dwyer (Yarmouth Port, Mass.) and Jiwa fell 6-2, 7-5 to Desnoes. At second singles, Desmarais lost 6-2, 6-1 to Ziegler while Howe lost to Nutter 6-1, 6-1 at third singles. At fourth singles, Rudnicki fell 6-4, 6-0 to Fiske and Bartuccio-Pereira lost to Pavao at first singles 6-0, 6-0.
The Huskies are back in action on Tuesday, April 19 as they host Salem State for a match at 3pm.
