GORHAM, Maine  –  Junior Niko Chitty (Coral Spring, Fla.) earned a win by fall at 197 pounds to secure a 23-22 win for the Norwich University Cadets over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a New England Wrestling Association dual meet Saturday afternoon at Hill Gymnasium. 
 
With the score 17-16 in favor of the Cadets heading into the 197-bout, Chitty's pin gave Norwich an insurmountable point total and secured its fifth win of the season to improve to 5-6.  The Huskies, coming off of a win last night at New England College, are now 10-5 in dual meet action. 
 
 
On the Mat:

• After a win by forfeit at 125, Husky sophomore Ethan Ford (North Andover, Mass.) gave USM a 10-0 win with an 11-0 major decision win at 133. Ford defeated Norwich junior Aidan Shaefer (Westfield, N.J.).
• Norwich won the next five bouts, including a narrow 11-10 decision by junior Cameron Wooldridge (Roanoke, Va.) over Husky freshman Tyler Haynes (Metuchen, N.J.) at 157 points.  The Cadets led 17-10 after the 165 match, a 10-8 decision in favor of Cadet senior Daniel Curran (Peterborough, N.H.) over USM senior Juan Vernaza (Miramar, Fla.).
• Graduate student Aidan Whitis (Gorham, Maine) put the Huskies back into the match earning a win by fall at 184.  Whitis put Norwich freshman Tyrian Saeturn (Dracut, Mass.) to the mat in 4:12 to make it 17-16, before Chitty picked up the decisive win by fall at 197.
• In the final match of the day, Southern Maine senior Jake Peavey (South China, Maine/Erskine Academy) earned a quick win by fall, putting Norwich senior Gabe Duden (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) on his back in 44 seconds.

 
Up Next:
Southern Maine will compete in the 2022 NEWA Futures tournament on Sunday, and then prepare for the upcoming NCAA Northeast Regional Championship February 26-27.
