PROVIDENCE, R.I.  –  Freshman Colby Frost (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle) posted a 3-0 record as the University of Southern Maine Huskies finished sixth at the 2022 New England Wrestling Association Duals Sunday hosted by Johnson & Wales University at the Wildcat Center.  Senior David Kurker (West Roxbury, Mass./Needham) also picked up three wins posting a 3-1 record at the event, while senior Juan Vernaza (Miramar, Fla./Somerset) finished the day at 2-1.
 
Seeded sixth to start the tourney, Southern Maine opened with a 32-15 win over Rhode Island College winning eight of 10 bouts.  The Huskies dropped their second match 44-3 to Castleton University before bouncing back with a 27-17 win over Western New England University to earn a spot in the fifth place match. Facing off against Williams, Southern Maine dropped a narrow 23-21 contest to finish in sixth.
 
On the Mat:

• Wrestling at 133, sophomore Ethan Ford earned two wins defeating RIC's Hunter Lundberg by fall in 2:10, and earned a major decision win against WNEU's Corey Cope 12-4.
• Competing at 149, Frost continued his strong wrestling earning a 12-0 major decision over RIC's Michael Pestana. Against WNEU, Frost pinned his opponent Cam Hines in 2:12, and the picked up his third win with an injury default (2:24) against Williams' Joseph Rossetti. .
• Kurker picked up a hard-won 6-4 (SV-1) at 165 pounds over RIC's Eric Zane and then fought his way to a 3-1 win over Michael Angers of Castleton to score USM's lone point in the match.  Against WNEU, Kurker added to his tally with a 12-4 major decision win over Sean Monteiro.
• Vernaza opened with a 7-3 decision against RIC's Christopher McCarthy at 174, and also had a 20-6 major decision win over WNEU's James Dougherty.
