PROVIDENCE, R.I.  –  The University of Southern Maine Huskies' wrestling team competed at the 2022 Johnson & Wales University Wildcat Open Saturday at the Wildcat Center.  Competing against wrestlers from 16 programs, the Huskies had several strong performances. 
 
On the Mat:

• Junior Elijah Holbrook (Scarborough, Maine) had a pair of wins at 149 pounds, including an 8-2 win by decision over an unattached wrestler Vincent DeMaria in the opening round.
• Freshman Timothy Smale II (Victorville, Calif./Victor Valley) earned a 13-2 major decision win over Sacred Heart's Michael Mollina at 184 pounds.
• Also competing at 149 pounds, freshman Kaleb Pool (Tucson, Ariz./Tucson) earned a 10-5 decision against Sacred Heart's David Tufankijan Jr.

Southern Maine remains on the road in Rhode Island and will compete in NEWA Duals (9:30 am) also hosted by Johnson & Wales. Southern Maine is ranked sixth in the 16-team team ranking.
