Dundas Scores Record-Setting 100th Career Goal

Box Score (With contributions from Salem State Sports Information)

SALEM, Mass. -- Rookie Andrew Lawrence (North Yarmouth, Maine/Greely) scored five goals and senior Tristan Dundas (Abbotsford, B.C.) tallied four, including his record-setting 100th career goal, as the visiting University of Southern Maine Huskies rolled past the Salem State University Vikings in a non-conference men's lacrosse game Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The win was the first of the season for the Huskies after three losses to open the season.  It was the Huskies sixth straight win over the Vikings dating back to 2015.  The Vikings, still in search of their first win of the season, fall to 0-2.
Dundas went into Wednesday's game with 96 career goals to rank third on the Huskies' all-time goal-scoring list.  He scored twice in the second quarter, and tallied two more in the fourth.  His 100th career marker came with 2:27 remaining off a feed from sophomore Tanner Hebert (Pittston, Maine/Gardiner Area).  Dundas moved past former teammates Nate DelGiudice (98 goals, 2015-18) and Seth Wing (99 goals, 2014-2018) to become the all-time leading goal scorer, and be the first player to reach the century mark.
Lawrence also had two assists in the game to finish with a team-high seven points.  The rookie attackman scored three times in the opening quarter to help the Huskies build a 5-1 lead.  Senior Joe Cullinan (Contoocook, N.H./Hopkinton) contributed two goals and three assists for a five-point day.  Junior Colin Kinney (Belgrade, Maine/Messalonskee) chipped in with two goals and two assists.
Junior Kevin Albert (Canton, Mass.) scored both goals for Salem State.  Albert's second goal, coming in the second quarter, made the score 6-2 at that point.  Southern Maine would score 11 unanswered goals over the final 39 minutes of play to pull away.
USM junior goalie Josh Cahill (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Central) recorded eight saves to earn his first collegiate victory.  Salem State sophomore goalie Jon Crutchfield (Boylston, Mass./Assabet Valley Regional) stopped 14 shots.
Southern Maine rolled up a 45-26 advantage in shots taken (31-10 on goal) and won the battle of the ground balls 41-20.  Senior Steve Gilbert (Litchfield, Maine/Oak Hill) led the Huskies with six ground balls.  Sophomore Owen Kelley (Portland, Maine/Millbrook) was successful on eight of 11 faceoffs.
Southern Maine's next scheduled game with Castleton University on Saturday has been postponed.  USM's next game will be April 13 at the University of Massachusetts Boston.  Salem State is scheduled to play at Massachusetts Maritime on Saturday.
