GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's lacrosse team closed out the 2026 season on Friday with a 20-5 loss to the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Buccaneers on Senior Day. Sophomore
Rodrigo Rego-Araujo (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) scored twice for the Huskies, while senior
James Kastrinakis (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic), junior
Lucas Rego (Dracut, Mass./Lowell Catholic) and sophomore
Zach Smith (Waterbury, Vt./Harwood Union) also scored goals.

Rhys Bridges (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee) each recorded an assist for the Huskies. Junior
Brycen Wolfahrt (Biddeford, Maine) made 11 saves and took the loss for Southern Maine.

How It Happened:
- The Buccaneers opened the game on a 7-0 run in the first quarter before Rego scored with 11 second left on the clock. Six different players scored for the Buccaneers with Sullivan scoring twice.
- Mass. Maritime outscored the Huskies 6-1 in the second quarter. Rego-Araujo had the lone USM goal, his first of the season, which was assisted by Gaulrapp.
- The visitors had both an up goal by Lynch and down goal by Bengtson as part of 4-1 third quarter. Kastrinakis scored the Huskies' goal after collecting a rebound in front of the net and beating the Mass. Maritime goalie.
- Smith and Rego-Araujo scored back-to-back goals in the span of 57 seconds before the Buccaneers closed out the game on a 3-0 run.

- The Buccaneers led 38-16 in shots on goal, 22-6 in faceoff wins and 47-23 in ground balls.
- Junior Nick Shevchenko (Gray, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester) led the Huskies in ground balls with five and won five faceoffs. He now has 144 career ground balls and ranks 15th in program history.
- Gaulrapp recorded four ground balls and two caused turnovers. He finished the season as the team's leader in goals (23) and points (32).
