Box Score Danbury, Conn. – The Western Connecticut State University Colonials swept the doubles and singles points on their way to a 9-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies at the Westfield Courts on Saturday. With the win, Western Connecticut starts its season 1-0, while the Huskies are 0-1. 

Senior Adam Papayoanou (Valencia, CA/Hart) and freshman Cole Ouellette (Lewiston, ME/Lewiston) fought Aaron Campos (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Matthew Carino (Sandy Hook, Conn.) to a tiebreaker at number one doubles, but eventually dropped the match 8-7 (7-3). 

At third doubles, sophomore Gabriel Couture (Boucherville, Quebec/Fadette) and freshman Antoine Gignac (Quebec City, Quebec/St.Lawrence) started down 5-0, but played a competitive back end of the match before falling 8-6.

Gignac had a strong debut at fifth singles as well, pushing Jay Kilcourse (New Fairfield, Conn.) to a tiebreaker in the first set before dropping the match 7-6 (7-3), 6-2. 

The Huskies are back in action next week Saturday as they travel to Vermont to face Castleton University in a Little East Conference match at 1pm.
