GORHAM, Maine – Off to a strong start to the 2021-2022 season, the University of Southern Maine Huskies' wrestling team will host one of its three home events this season welcoming 12 teams to the Ted Reese Invitational and the Costello Sports Complex Fieldhouse on Saturday, December 4 (10:00 am). The tournament will feature several wrestlers from some of the top programs in New England and the country.
In addition to being the first time Husky fans can see their team in action at home this season, the tournament will feature several nationally and regionally ranked wrestlers from Southern Maine and competitor institutions, including familiar opponents United States Coast Guard Academy and, Castleton University.
The Huskies' have four wrestlers ranked in the most recent New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Division III poll. Senior captains
Antoine Grace (Queensbury, N.Y.) and
Jake Peavey (South China, Maine/Erskine Academy) at opposite ends of the weight division are both ranks at 125 pounds and 285 pounds respectively. Grace is ranked eighth in the region, while Peavey is ranked second. Peavey, who is 7-2 with all of his wins by fall, has made waves nationally and ranked 15
th in the National Wrestling Coaches' Association (NWCA) Division III Coaches' Poll.
Graduate student
Aidan Whitis (Gorham, Maine), coming off of a third place finish at 197 pounds at the Doug Parker Invitational, is 7-4 overall and is ranked seventh in his division by NEWA. Freshman
Colby Frost (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle) is off to a strong start in his rookie campaign and is 8-4 overall, and is presently ranked sixth by NEWA at 149 pounds.
Action starts at 10 a.m. and will continue through the finals. Admission for the all day event is $5 for adults, and $3 for seniors and children. Fans should review the Huskies' Spectator Policy, and be prepared to show proof of vaccination, or a negative COVID test (within 72 hours), and wear a mask while indoors.
