GORHAM, Maine – The Norwich University Cadets swept the doubles and singles points and went on to claim a 9-0 season-opening win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference men's tennis match Saturday afternoon at the Costello Sports Complex. Norwich starts its 2020 season 1-0, while the Huskies are 0-1.
Sophomores Tim Santy (San Antonio, Texas/Northside) and Alex Angelopoulos (Garrison, N.Y./James I. O'Neill) earned an 8-3 win at first doubles defeating the Husky tandem of senior Matt Henderson (Newburyport, Mass.) and junior Nick DeAngelis (Wareham, Mass./Classical (RI)) for the first point of the match and the Cadets went on to claim all nine.
Senior Kyle Morin (Lewiston, Maine) pushed Cadet senior Timothy Birnbaum (Mahwah, N.J./SJI International School) to a third set at third singles but ultimately fell 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 13-11.
Southern Maine is off until March 28 when it opens Little East Conference play at Western Connecticut State (1:00 pm).
