GORHAM, Maine – Sophomore Alex Bourque (North Smithfield, R.I.) led the Rhode Island College Anchormen from the top of the singles and doubles lineup registering a pair of wins at no. 1 singles and no. 1 doubles en route to a 9-0 Anchormen win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference men's tennis match Saturday afternoon at Gorham High School.
With the win, Rhode Island College remains undefeated in the Little East Conference and improves to 3-0. Winning its fourth straight, RIC is now 6-1 overall. USM is still hunting for its first win of the season at 0-4 and 0-3 LEC.
Bourque beat Huskies' number one Adam Papayoanou (Valencia, Calif./Hart) at first singles 6-0, 6-2, and teamed with senior Alan Esposito (Clinton, Conn.) to earn an 8-2 win at first doubles over Papayoanou and USM senior junior Matt Henderson (Newburyport, Mass.).
The Huskies host Thomas College on Wednesday (4:00 pm) in a non-conference match.
