BOSTON – Freshman Nandish Shah (Ahmedabad, India/Solaris Public School) and sophomore Alexander Comerchero (Brookline, Mass.) claimed an 8-1 win at first doubles to score the first point of the match, and the UMass Boston Beacons went on to earn a 9-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference men's tennis match Saturday afternoon.
Shah went on to win his singles match, 6-1, 6-0, at the top of the flight defeating Southern Maine sophomore Adam Papayoanou (Valencia, Calif./Hart). USM junior Kyle Morin (Lewiston, Maine) put in a battle at the fifth singles spot, but fell 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 to Beacon senior Tin Tran (Saigon, Vietnam/North Quincy (Mass.).
The win extends UMass Boston's streak to two games and evens out its overall record to 3-3 and gives the Beacons a 1-0 mark to start conference play. USM remains winless at 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the LEC.
Southern Maine is back in action on Wednesday (4:00 pm) when it travels to Thomas College for a non-conference match.
