WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College men's tennis team defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies, 9-0, in a non-conference matchup on Thursday afternoon at the Harold Alfond Athletic Center.
Earning its third straight 9-0 victory, Thomas improves to 6-3 on the season. The Huskies fall to 1-3 suffering their second consecutive loss.
In doubles play, Ryan Chasse (Fort Kent, Maine) and Zachary Disch (Waterville, Maine) took an 8-3 win over sophomore Matt Henderson (Newburyport, Mass.) and senior Chase Orava (Sagamore Beach, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Regional) in number ones. Ross Munn (Brunswick, Maine) and Jared Waterhouse (Dayton, Maine) shutout Nick DeAngelis and Kyle Morin in the No. 2 flight, 8-0. In threes, Kaleb Payson (Lamoine, Maine) and Christo Naranja (Fort Kent, Maine) topped sophomore Carrys Ngoy (DRC, Congo/Lewiston) and junior Evan Zuchowski (Dover, N.H.), 8-1.
The Terriers took all six victories in singles action beginning with Chasse winning 6-1, 6-0 over Henderson in ones while Munn downed Orava 6-1, 6-0 in twos. On the three line, Disch defeated DeAngelis 6-1, 6-1 followed by Waterhouse besting Morin 6-1, 6-0. Payson took a 6-1, 6-0 win over Ngoy while Naranja finished with a 6-3, 6-0 victory against Zukuski.
USM takes on Western Connecticut on Saturday, April 14 (12:00 pm) in its next match.
