Thomas Blanks Southern Maine 9-0 in Huskies' Season Opener

 

WATERVILLE, Maine   – Senior Zachary Disch (Waterville, Maine) and sophomore Ryan Chasse (Fort Kent, Maine) led from the top of the doubles lineup with an 8-0 win to lead the Thomas College Terriers to a 9-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference men's tennis match Wednesday afternoon at the Alfond Fieldhouse in Waterville, Maine

            With the season-opening loss, Southern Maine beings its 2018 season at 0-1.  Winning its third consecutive match, Thomas is now 3-2. 

            Disch and Chasse defeated the USM tandem of senior Chase Orava (Sagamore Beach, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Regional) and sophomore Matt Henderson (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport) as the Terriers swept all three doubles points, and then went on to win all six singles points for the victory.  Chasse defeated Henderson in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 at first doubles. Southern Maine sophomore Kyle Morin (Lewiston, Maine) had the closest match of the day falling 6-2, 6-3 at fourth singles.

            Southern Maine returns to action on Friday, March 30 (4:00 pm) when it hosts the Castleton University Spartans.
