Babson Rolls Past Southern Maine 7-3

            BABSON PARK, Mass. -- Seniors Bobby Hall (Westwood, Mass.) and Charlie Ackerman (Bradenton, Fla.) and rookie Nick Rosa (Birmingham, Mich.) all produced three points as Babson College defeated the University of Southern Maine, 7-3, in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action on Friday night at the Babson Skating Center.

            Babson, which is unbeaten over its last four games, improves to 13-8-4 overall and 11-4-2 in league play, while Southern Maine falls to 3-17-4 overall and 3-11-3 in the NEHC with its eighth straight loss.  Babson has won the last 14 games between the two teams going back to 2013.

            Hall and Rosa both had a goal and two assists, while Ackerman led all players with three assists for the Beavers. Senior Josh Casper (Lake Forest, Ill.) finished with a goal and an assist, and classmates Rob Devaney (Reading, Mass.) and Ryan Gouveia (Dartmouth, Mass.) and juniors Matt Brazel (Hingham, Mass.) and Tommy Munichiello (Weymouth, Mass.) each scored once in the win.

            Junior goaltender Matt Pompa (Palm City, Fla.) made 12 saves for Babson, which got at least one point from 12 different players.

            Sophomore Brendan Murphy (St. Peters, Mo.) had two goals and junior Parker Sanderson (Bangor, Maine) scored once for the Huskies. First-year netminder Anthony D'Aloisio (Frisco, Texas) finished with 26 saves in the loss.

            The Beavers jumped on top with a pair of goals in the first six minutes of the contest.  Hall scored off a centering feed just 1:25 into the game, and Casper followed with his first goal of the season off a rebound to make it 2-0 at the 5:20 mark.  Southern Maine cut its deficit in half just under six minutes later when Sanderson ripped a slap shot past Pompa off a rebound for his team-leading sixth goal of the year.

            Devaney helped the Beavers regain a two-goal advantage with his seventh tally of the year on the power play just 2:44 into the second period. The teams then traded power-play goals just 25 seconds apart as Rosa jammed home a rebound in front of the net to make it 4-1 before Murphy pulled the Huskies back within 4-2 with his second goal of the year at the 8:29 mark.

            Babson put the game away with three goals over the first 11 minutes of the third period. Ackerman forced a turnover and fed Brazel, who beat D'Aloisio from the left face-off circle for a 5-2 advantage 1:59 into the stanza. Gouveia buried a centering pass from McMorrow on the power play at 7:11, and Munichiello redirected a blast by Casper for another power play tally to extend the margin to 7-2 at 10:29 of the third.

            Murphy scored his second of the night with 1:09 remaining on the clock.

            Both teams wrap up the regular season on Saturday at 4 p.m. as Babson hosts New England College, while Southern Maine visits UMass Boston.
