GORHAM, Maine - Senior Kyle Curley (Gorham, Maine) remained undefeated in Little East Conference play earning a 6-3, 6-4 win at first singles to highlight a tough 6-3 loss for the University of Southern Maine Huskies to the Bridgewater State University Bears in a Little East Conference men's tennis match Tuesday afternoon at The Racket & Fitness Center. Curley is 4-0 in LEC action and 4-2 on the season. He defeated BSU senior Matt McGee (Warren, R.I./Mount Hope) for the win.
With the win over the Huskies, Bridgewater State improved to 5-4 overall and 3-2 in Little East Conference action. Southern Maine drops to 1-7 overall and 1-3 in the LEC. The Bears' win snapped a two-match losing streak.
BSU took a 2-1 lead into the singles matches claiming victories at second and third doubles. Seniors Justin Haley (South Yarmouth, Mass.) and Michael Delisle (Berkley, Mass.) earned a tough 9-7 win at second doubles narrowly defeating freshman Andy MacEachern (Nashua, N.H./Merrimack) and junior Chase Orava (Sagamore Beach, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth Regional) to score a decisive point.
The Bears won four out of the six singles points. Freshman Kyle Morin (Lewiston, Maine) was the other USM winner in singles action picking up a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 win at fifth singles over BSU's Jacob Frazee
Southern Maine returns to action on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) hosting Rhode Island College for a Little East Conference match. Bridgewater State travels to Eastern Nazarene on Thursday (3:30 p.m.) in a non-conference match.
