CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore Alex Cauneac (Severna Park, Md.) defeated senior Kyle Curley (Gorham, Maine) 6-0, 6-0 at first singles to lead the No. 24 MIT Engineers to a 9-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference men's tennis match Friday afternoon at the JB Carr Tennis Bubble.
The win is the seventh straight for the nationally-ranked Engineers who improve to 7-0. Southern Maine, playing in its 2017 season-opener, stands at 0-1 on the spring season.
MIT swept the Huskies in doubles points to go ahead 3-0 before entering singles play. Cauneac and Bryan Lilley defeated Curley and junior Samuel Holland (Falmouth, Maine) 8-2 to pace the Engineers.
Southern Maine, the three-time (2016, 2015, 2014) Little East Conference defending champions, returns to action on Saturday, April 8 (12:00 p.m.) in a conference match against Western Connecticut.
