USM, Daniel Webster Skate to 0-0 Tie

            NASHUA, N.H. -- For the first time in the 40-year history of the program, the University of Southern Maine men's ice hockey team finished in a 0-0 overtime tie after playing to a scoreless draw Saturday night against Daniel Webster College in New England Hockey Conference action.

            The Huskies dominated play outshooting the Eagles 62-11 over 65 minutes, but could not solve the goaltending of sophomore Anthony D'Urso (Rome, N.Y.).  At the other end, USM rookie Michael Royer (West Roxbury, Mass.), making his first appearance in a Huskies' uniform, made 11 saves to earn a shutout.  The shutout was the first in each goalie's collegiate career.

            Southern Maine had a 23-5 edge in shots on goal in a scoreless opening period, and a 15-5 margin in the second period.  The Huskies kept up their relentless pressure in the third period outshooting the Eagles 20-1, but D'Urso kept the game scoreless.  In the overtime, the Huskies had four shots on D'Urso.

            The Huskies, 6-10-2 overall and 3-8-1 in NEHC games, return home on Tuesday (7:00 p.m.) to host Bowdoin College in a non-conference game.  The Eagles, 1-16-1 on the season, host Babson College on Friday (7:00 p.m.).
