GORHAM, Maine - The University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's tennis team locked up its third consecutive Little East Conference Regular Season Title and the top spot in the upcoming LEC Championship Tournament closing its regular season with a 6-3 win on the road at Salem State University Wednesday afternoon.
The Huskies improved to 9-2 overall and are a perfect 6-0 in the Little East for the third consecutive year. Salem State fell to 5-5 and 2-3 in the LEC with the loss.
Southern Maine won two out of three doubles matches to stake a 2-1 lead over the Vikings. Senior Tyler Adams (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and junior Kyle Curley (Gorham, Maine) led the way from first doubles with an 8-3 win over Salem State's John Didonato (Newbury, Mass.) and Kevin Lam (Salem, Mass.).
The Huskies sealed the win in singles action winning the first through fourth singles spots. Adams won his 38th consecutive singles match, all at first singles, defeating Didonato 6-1, 6-0. Curley, this week's LEC Player of the Week, earned his third straight 6-0, 6-0 win against a conference opponent defeating Erickson at second singles.
As the first seed in the 2016 Little East Conference Championship, Southern Maine receives a quarterfinal bye and will face the winner of the fourth seed and fifth seed matchu on Thursday, May 5 (tba). Salem State closes out the regular season with a Little East Conference match on Saturday (12:00 p.m.) at Western Connecticut.
