GORHAM, Maine – Senior Tyler Adams (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and junior Kyle Curley (Gorham, Maine) took an 8-0 win at first doubles to set the tone and the University of Southern Maine Huskies went on to defeat the Rhode Island College Anchormen 6-3 in a Little East Conference men's tennis match Saturday afternoon at Gorham High School Tennis Courts.
With the win, Southern Maine improves to 8-1 overall and remains undefeated in the Little East at 5-0. RIC drops to 2-11 overall and remains winless in the LEC at 0-4.
The Huskies captured two out of the three doubles points, as senior Eric Berry-Sandelin (South Portland, Maine) and sophomore Samuel Holland (Falmouth, Maine) earned an 8-1 win at number two doubles.
Southern Maine claimed the first through four singles points to secure the win. Adams and Curley were dominant at first and second singles respectively. Adams defeated sophomore Brett Taggert (North Kingstown, R.I.) 6-0, 6-0, while Curley downed sophomore Lee Tiberi (Smithfield, R.I.).
Southern Maine hosts Colby College in a non-conference match on Sunday (12:00 p.m.). Rhode Island College hosts Western Connecticut in a Little East Conference match on Tuesday (3:30 p.m.).
