Six in A Row: Southern Maine Downs Salem State 7-2

GORHAM, Maine –  With a pair of 8-0 victories at first and second doubles, the University of Southern Maine Huskies grabbed a 2-1 lead over the Salem State University Vikings before rolling to their sixth straight win in a 7-2 victory in a Little East Conference men's tennis match Tuesday afternoon at the Costello Sports Complex Courts.
 

Southern Maine improves to 8-2 with the victory and remained undefeated in the Little East with a 4-0 record.  Salem State saw its two-match win-streak halted with the loss to the Huskies and stand at 3-8 overall and 1-2 in the conference circuit.

 

Senior Thaddeus St. John (Weld, Maine/Mt. Blue) and junior Eric Berry-Sandelin (South Portland, Maine) cemented the Huskies' 2-1 lead in the doubles points with their 8-0 victory over juniors David Dluznnieski (Auburn, Mass./Auburn) and Conner Erickson (Hubbardston, Mass./Quabbin Regional).  Both St. John and Berry-Sandelin went on to earn convincing victories in singles action as USM won five of six available points.

 

St. John defeated Erickson at third singles in straight sets 6-0, 6-0, while Berry-Sandelin took an 8-2 win at fourth singles.  Junior Tyler Adams (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) maintained his unbeaten streak in singles action downing freshman Matt Mogren (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport) 6-1, 6-0 at the top of the line up.  Adams is 10-0 in singles action, including a 4-0 mark against Little East Conference opponents.

 

Southern Maine hosts Bridgewater State next Wednesday (3:30 p.m.) in a Little East Conference match. Salem State hosts Western Connecticut State in an LEC contest on Tuesday (3:30 p.m.).
