WATERVILLE, Maine – The Colby College Mules men's tennis team defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 8-1 in a non-conference match Monday evening at the Alfond-Wales Tennis Courts.
With the win Colby improves to 2-0 during its spring season. Southern Maine, suffering its second straight set back, falls to 2-2.
Sophomores Carl Reid (Mattapan, Mass.) and Vlad Murad (Bacau, Bacau Country, Romania) defeated Southern Maine's junior Tyler Adams (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and senior Scott Gagne (Lewiston, Maine) 8-2 at the top of the doubles lineup as the Mules snagged all three of the doubles points.
In singles action, Colby won five out of the six points. Adams scored the Huskies' lone point of the match taking out Colby number one senior Mark HoSang (Bedford, N.H./Beford) 6-1, 5-7 (11-9).
Southern Maine travels to Thomas College on Wednesday (4:00 p.m.) for its next match.
