Box Score Huskies Take on The College of New Jersey on Saturday
LEESBURG, Fla. -- Sophomore Ryan Olive (Houston, Texas) went 3 for 5 with four RBI as the 14th-ranked Rhodes College Lynx handed the 8th-ranked University of Southern Maine Huskies their first loss of the season, 10-2, in a non-conference game Friday at Pat Thomas Stadium.
The win was the second straight for the Lynx and improved their overall record to 16-3. The Huskies slip to 4-1 overall with their first setback of the season.
Junior right-hander Daniel Morris (Atlanta, Ga.) went the distance on the hill for the Lynx to earn his fourth win against no defeats. Morris allowed just five hits and no walks while fanning five.
Olive and senior Justin Genter (Los Angeles, Calif.) had three singles apiece to pace the Lynx' 14-hit attack against six USM hurlers. Sophomore Jackson Louie (Atlanta, Ga.) had a double and a single.
Junior Sam Dexter (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee) continued his red-hot hitting for the Huskies with his fourth multiple-hit game banging out a single and a double. Junior Nick DiBiase (Portland, Maine/Deering) had a double and scored one of the Huskies' two fourth-inning runs.
Rookie Devin Warren (Smithfield, Maine/Messalonskee) started on the mound for the Huskies and took the loss.
The Lynx jumped out on top in the first inning on Olive's fielder's choice that scored Genter who had walked and stole second and third.
A costly two-out throwing error in the second inning led to six unearned runs for Rhodes. Genter followed with an RBI single, and Olive brought in two more with a single. A third straight single by senior David Balaguer (Austin, Texas) scored Genter and ended Warren's stint on the mound. Olive scored the sixth run on a single by senior Will Gietema (Dallas, Texas).
Olive's RBI single in the third made it 8-0 before the Huskies got on the board in the bottom half of the inning. Sophomore Damon Wallace (Gorham, Maine) singled with one out, stole second and scored on DiBiase's two-out double down the left-field line. DiBiase moved up to third on an infield error, and scored on Dexter's single.
