Carson Black (Porter, Maine/Sacopee Valley) of the University of Southern Maine Huskis' baseball team has been named the Little East Conference (LEC) Pitcher of the Week. Earning the first weekly honor of his season, Black is the third Huskies' pitcher to earn weekly honors for the Huskies' this season, joining
Colin McDonald and
Hayden Strout who have both been honored by the MCBSA. Black is the second Husky to be recognized by the LEC, joining
Evan Baschnagel who earned LEC Player of the Week honors on March 16.
Black had a strong week for Southern Maine making two appearances and earning a Little East Conference win over Rhode Island College in conference action. Black finished his week with a 0.00 earned run average, scattering three hits, all singles, over six innings without yielding a walk. In a one-inning relief appearance in a 3-1 loss to Endicott, Black did not allow a walk or a hit in the eighth inning, earning a pair of ground outs and a fly out. In USM's 23-1 (7 inn) win over RIC, Black earned the win throwing five shutout innings with three singles, now walks and three strikeouts. Black recorded his 100th career strikeout in the win to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Black is 3-0 on the season with a 2.70 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. Firing 20.0 innings over five appearances, Black has held his opponents to a .219 batting average allowing 16 hits and nine walks. He has 14 strikeouts this season.
Southern Maine hosts UMaine Farmington on Thursday (3:30 pm) in non-conference action. The Huskies return to LEC play at WestConn on Saturday, April 4 (12:00 pm) for an LEC doubleheader.
