How It Happened:
  • Endicott snagged a lead early, scoring twice in the bottom of the first.  The Gulls took advantage of five first-inning walks, and a wild pitch to generate its offense. Husky starter junior Gabe Gifford (Bradley, Maine/Old Town) settled in after the first inning and allowed just two walks and three hits over his next four innings while striking out five.
  • After giving up a two-out double in the first to Southern Maine junior Peter Keblinsky (Ellsworth, Maine), Pappalardo retired six consecutive Husky hitters.  The Huskies had a baserunner in the top of the third on an Endicott fielding error, but Pappalardo got an infield ground out to end the inning.
  • In the fourth, Pappalardo issued a two-out walk, but kept USM off the board getting his second strikeout of the inning to keep his team ahead 2-0.  The Gulls tacked on one more run in the bottom of the inning as James Benestad reached on single to left before pulling up to third on a walk and a fly out.  With one way, Benestad and Trevor Kamuda teamed up a double steal and Benstad crossed home for a 3-0 Gull lead.
  • Papalardo finished his outing in the fifth retiring Southern Maine in order, including his seventh strikeout of the game.  Jeremy Krendel took over in the sixth and retired the next six consecutively, including five by strikeout. In the top of the eighth, Krendel and the Gulls' infield was able to erase a one-out single from Southern Maine freshman Kaiden Morin (Brewer, Maine) with a double-play ball.
  • Still trailing 3-0, Southern Maine rallied in the top of the ninth.  Junior Evan Baschnagel (Garden City, NY/Chaminade) drew a lead-off walk and senior Kyle Douin (Augusta, Maine/Cony) singled down the right field line to chase Krendel out of the game.  Keblinsky loaded the bases earning a walk from Bagshaw.  After a strikeout, Southern Maine scored on a fielder's choice RBI off the bat of sophomore Drew Scialdone (Amesbury, Mass.) to score Baschnagel, but it was as much as the Huskies would get as Bagshaw got a ground out to end the game and earn the save
