Southern Maine Finishes LEC Regular Season Undefeated Downs Bridgewater State 9-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Sophomore Tyler Adams (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) earned a straight set 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles to finish the 2014 Little East Conference regular season undefeated in singles action as the University of Southern Maine Huskies defeated the Bridgewater State University Bears 9-0 in an LEC men's tennis match Sunday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Court.

With the win, Southern Maine earns its 12th straight victory to improve to 12-3 overall and finish its LEC regular season schedule undefeated at 6-0. With the loss, Bridgewater State falls to 3-11 and 1-5 in the conference.  The Huskies' earned the top seed in the upcoming 2014 Little East Conference Tournament Championship.  As the top seed, Southern Maine earns an opening round bye and will face the winner of the Rhode Island College vs. UMass Dartmouth match on Thursday, May 1.  Bridgewater State is the sixth seed and will travel to third-seed Western Connecticut on Tuesday, April 29.

The Huskies' jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play led by an 8-2 win at third doubles from senior captains Christopher G. Ross (Somerset, Mass.) and Corey Dyke (Monmouth, Maine) over the BSU tandem of senior Cody Farrell (Scituate, Mass.) and sophomore Sean Murray (North Brookfield, Mass/David Prouty). 

After doubles action, Southern Maine continued to roll earning all six singles points.  Junior Scott Gagne (Lewiston, Maine) made it 4-0 USM with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Bridgewater State sophomore Hung Huynh (Worcester, Mass./South High Community School) at fourth singles.  Adams scored the match-clinching fifth point with his straight set victory over Jesse Gotlib (Dartmouth, Mass.).
