GORHAM, Maine – Sophomore Tyler Adams (Buxton, Maine/Buxton) did not give up a game en route to a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles to guide the University of Southern Maine to a 9-0 win over the Castleton State College Spartans Sunday afternoon at the Costello Sports Complex.
The win is the Huskies' ninth in a row and lifts their record to 9-3 overall. The loss is the second straight for the Spartans who fall to 5-4.
The Huskies cruised to the victory starting the match off 3-0 after doubles action. Adams and junior Scott Gagne (Lewiston, Maine) scored USM's first point with an 8-0 win at first doubles over Castleton State senior Adam McCaffrey (Niantic, Conn.) and sophomore Mike Glaser (Wayne, N.J.). Sophomore Sebastian Taylor (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) and junior Romain Sauvageot (Cevnes, Rhone, France) made it 2-0 with an 8-5 win at third doubles, before sophomore Max Wilkey (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Island School (Hong Kong)) and freshman Kyle Curley (Gorham, Maine) made it 3-0 in favor of the Huskies with an 8-1 win at second doubles.
Adams rolled from the top of the singles lineup defeated Glaser, while Curley earned a 6-0, 6-2 win at second singles over McCaffrey securing the victory before the Huskies went on to win third, fifth, fourth and sixth singles in order.
Southern Maine travels to Salem State for a Little East Conference match on Tuesday (3:30 p.m.). Castleton State hosts Green Mountain College in a North Atlantic Conference on Wednesday (4:00 p.m.).
